Multidrug-resistant Salmonella strains are spreading in poultry, study suggests

Scientific Reports highlights new research from NC State showing the continued spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella in retail poultry. Using NARMS data from 2020–2024, researchers tested 132 isolates from North Carolina poultry, uncovering a troubling prevalence of ESBL genes like blaCTX-M-65. These findings raise concerns about MDR pathogens in the food supply chain and the growing public health risk.
