More than 50 people sickened in Salmonella outbreak linked to family reunion meal

Over 50 people in Accomack County, VA, fell ill after a family reunion potluck, possibly due to salmonella. The event wasn’t catered, and health officials suspect improper food temperature caused the outbreak. Between July 27–29, Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital treated 52 cases of foodborne illness. The investigation is ongoing. A strong reminder: safe food handling matters—especially during summer gatherings.
