September 25 — U.S. companies across industries are cutting jobs to streamline operations amid economic uncertainty, echoing last year’s trend. Job openings, a key measure of labor demand, fell by 176,000 to 7.181 million in July, the lowest in 10 months, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. At the same time, layoffs rose by 12,000 to 1.808 million, signaling continued weakness in the labor market.
