Saskatchewan cracks down on drugs, street weapons

Saskatchewan’s new Safe Public Spaces Act took effect last week, allowing municipalities and First Nations to opt into tougher enforcement against dangerous drugs and street weapons. The act bans possession, transport, storage, or alteration of items like bear spray, knives, machetes, and hypodermic needles. It also prohibits drugs such as fentanyl and methamphetamine in public spaces. However, communities can choose not to adopt the law.
