Thimerosal in Vaccines May Contribute to Autism Severity, New Analysis Shows

A peer-reviewed study by autism researcher Cynthia Nevison, Ph.D., tracked intellectual disability rates in children with autism born between 1992 and 2014. The rates rose and fell in correlation with the number of thimerosal-containing vaccines recommended during those years. Published in Science, Public Health Policy and the Law, the study used CDC’s ADDM Network data to analyze trends, suggesting thimerosal, a mercury preservative, may influence autism severity.
