Monsanto: The Company that Owns the World’s Food Supply

Monsanto pioneered genetic modification in crops, conducting early field trials and applying biotech business models to agriculture. Known for GMOs, aggressive seed patenting, and government lobbying, the company was often surrounded by controversy. Monsanto also produced chemicals like DDT, PCBs, Agent Orange, and rBGH. Critics accused it of biopiracy and harming biodiversity. In 2016, Monsanto agreed to be acquired by Bayer for $66 billion, pending regulatory approval.
