In our cloudy, wet climate, solar power works well in summer but isn’t reliable year-round, especially in winter. We use solar strategically and back it up with generators, wood stoves, rainwater catchment, and gas appliances. The goal isn’t full off-grid living but reducing dependency and being prepared for outages. It’s about using resources wisely, staying resilient, and prioritizing practical preparedness over convenience and luxury.
