A large commercial cattle study found that nearly 20% of male cattle (steers) showed signs of lactation. Researchers suggested extreme body fat may play a role by increasing estrogen production. However, the study lacked a control group of cattle without hormonal growth implants such as estradiol, making it difficult to separate the possible effects of obesity from those of the implants.
