Kit Carson Ventures (KCV) provides progressive, integrated training for organizations, law enforcement, responsible civilians and others looking to develop skills that can actually be applied when situations become complicated.

The idea behind KCV’s training model is straightforward: taking individual courses doesn’t necessarily mean those individual skills will come together when they’re needed.

Someone might have training in communications, medical response, navigation, emergency management or other disciplines. But real emergencies don’t normally arrive one subject at a time. People may have to communicate, assess a changing situation, make decisions, solve problems and apply several different skills at once.

KCV trains with that reality in mind.

Rather than simply offering a series of unrelated courses, the company has developed the KCV Integrated Readiness Cycle™ (KCV-IRC) — a continuing training pipeline that connects instruction, refresher training, exercises, scenarios and performance review.

Participants can learn a skill, reinforce it, combine it with other capabilities and eventually apply those skills in more realistic scenarios.

When weaknesses show up, they’re not simply treated as mistakes. They become information for the next round of training.

That continuous process is a major part of the KCV approach.

Training can move from individual instruction into refresher clinics and increasingly complex exercises, followed by after-action reviews that examine what worked, what didn’t and what needs improvement. Those lessons can then be incorporated into later training.

KCV also places considerable emphasis on retention and transfer — not simply whether someone can perform during a class, but whether the skill remains usable later and can be applied under different conditions.

There is also a community component.

Because much of the training is regionally focused, participants may train with the same people repeatedly. Over time, individuals aren’t only learning skills. They’re gaining experience communicating, solving problems and operating alongside other people in their area.

That can turn training into something larger than a collection of certifications.

Kit Carson Ventures is led by Michael D. Kniseley, a Gulf War veteran and former U.S. Army Military Police Soldier whose professional background includes military service, defense contracting, training management, leadership, security assistance and business development.

KCV’s broader professional work also includes strategic business development and marketing for defense contractors, including experience related to U.S. security-assistance programs and international partner-nation training.
