Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has withdrawn a $176M subsidy granted by the previous administration to Moderna for late-stage development of its avian flu vaccine, mRNA-1018. Federal involvement began in July 2024 when BARDA approved the funding to support human-use vaccine development amid rising concerns over bird flu.
