A large study in Thorax followed over 101,000 adults for 12 years and found higher lung cancer risk linked to ultra-processed foods. People in the highest intake group had a 41% greater risk overall, including both non-small and small cell cancers. UPFs—like processed meats, soft drinks, pizza, and packaged foods—are calorie-dense, low in nutrients, and high in additives, sugars, fats, and sodium.
