A powerful winter storm is sweeping across the United States, leaving widespread destruction in its wake. At least 20 states and Washington, DC have declared states of emergency as snow, sleet, and freezing rain knock out power to nearly a million people. Dangerous cold has contributed to at least 10 deaths, with officials warning temperatures will remain dangerously low for days. Travel disruptions, road closures, and power outages continue as the storm moves east.
