🌿 Year of Rest (…and what still happened anyway) 😅
🎥 I just watched this episode from Homesteading Family, and it hit home.
They talk honestly about choosing a “Year of Rest”—not quitting homesteading, but slowing down on big projects so they didn’t burn out.
✅ What they still did:
🐄 Milk cow (cut back from 2 to 1)
🥕 Gardens + preserving
🐓 Animals + butchering + daily chores
❄️ Winter prep + keeping things running
🛑 What they tried to stop:
🛠️ Big builds, major fencing, big “add-on” systems, nonstop weekend projects
…and then life happened 💥
🏡 The surprise twist:
💍 A wedding + a generational vision
🔨 Building a 16×32 cabin in 9 weeks so their daughter & son-in-law could live on the property
Their biggest message was basically:
✨ Rest doesn’t mean doing nothing—sometimes it means picking what matters most.
💬 Question for the group:
What’s one thing you’d cut back on this year to make life more sustainable—without giving up the lifestyle you love?
