The 2025 Canadian wildfire season is off to an intense start after a warm, dry winter and spring. Over 170 active fires burn mainly in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with 90+ out of control as of May 29. Fires also rage in northern BC, Alberta, and Ontario. More than 1.5 million acres have burned—an area the size of Delaware. Thousands have evacuated, including two entire towns. Manitoba and Saskatchewan’s Metis Nation have declared states of emergency due to the fires.
