Canada’s 2025 wildfire season is off to an explosive start after a warm, dry winter and spring. As of June 1, over 170 wildfires are active, mainly in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with more than 90 out of control. Fires also burn in parts of BC, Alberta, and Ontario. At least 1.5 million acres have burned—about the size of Delaware. Thousands have evacuated, two towns cleared entirely, and two deaths are reported. Manitoba and Saskatchewan have declared states of emergency.
