Tiny Texas town is months away from losing access to sole water supply

Officials in Mathis, a small town of under 5,000 in San Patricio County, warn they could lose access to drinkable water by Christmas. A worsening drought is draining Lake Corpus Christi, the 21,000-acre reservoir that serves Mathis and other nearby towns in the Coastal Bend. Within months, the lake may no longer provide enough water to pump, leaving communities scrambling for solutions to secure their only freshwater source.
