The Toxic Twelve Chemicals and Contaminants in Cosmetics

Many cosmetics contain toxic chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and neurological damage. Since 2009, 88 such chemicals have been reported in over 73,000 products. The U.S. FDA has limited authority to regulate cosmetics, unlike stricter bans in the EU. Chemicals like formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, and PFAS are common risks. Current laws rely heavily on industry self-regulation, despite growing evidence of harm and calls for stronger oversight.
