People aren’t offended by the idea of safer vaccines because it’s extreme or irrational. They’re offended because vaccines are treated as already “perfect,” and questioning that perfection feels like heresy. RFK Jr. was once praised on the left as an environmental advocate fighting polluted air and water, until he questioned vaccines and was cast out. For many, belief in vaccines functions almost like a religion. Even Diego Rivera’s 1930s vaccine mural reflects this, portraying science itself as something sacred.
