Shipping Container Farming is the Future!

Imagine growing the equivalent of 70 acres of food on a third of an acre… in shipping containers.

That’s what Shannon O’Malley did with Brick Street Farms. She started with a garage hydroponic setup, then scaled to a 20-container vertical farm producing pesticide-free, non-GMO leafy greens and microgreens year-round. Each container pushes out 1,000–1,500 lbs of food a month, protected from weather, pests, and supply-chain chaos.

For preppers, this is a glimpse of what controlled-environment farming can look like:

High yield on a tiny footprint
Protected from drought, heat waves, and early/late frosts
Potential for both family food security and local income
Worth thinking about: what would a “micro” version of this look like for a homestead, small town lot, or community group—garage system, shed build, or shared container?
