Stephanie Wissel, physics professor at Penn State, helped discover unusual radio waves while searching for neutrinos. The waves came from steep angles, about 30 degrees below the ice surface, where they should have been absorbed by kilometers of rock. Wissel and her team have no explanation yet for how these neutrinos were detected despite these conditions.
