Scientists Admit Cheap Over-the-Counter Nasal Spray May Block COVID Infection in New Peer-Reviewed Study

A new peer-reviewed German study suggests that azelastine, an inexpensive over-the-counter nasal spray, may block COVID-19 infection—something the vaccines didn’t fully achieve. Conducted by Saarland University Hospital and published in JAMA Internal Medicine, the phase 2 trial tested 450 adults between March 2023 and July 2024. Researchers found that this $10 allergy spray could significantly reduce infection risk, offering a simple alternative to costly interventions.
