Sahara Dust Clouds Are Heading to Florida and Beyond

Dust from the Sahara Desert, known as the Saharan Air Layer (SAL), is drifting over Florida and the southeastern U.S., possibly creating vivid sunrises and sunsets and leading to drier weather. A thin layer is already present, with a thicker one possibly arriving next week. The SAL can suppress storm activity, which might affect the Atlantic hurricane season that starts June 1. No tropical storms are currently expected.
