A new report shows the average Canadian family paid 42.3% of its income in taxes in 2024—more than on housing, food, and clothing combined (35.5%). The Fraser Institute’s 2025 Canadian Consumer Tax Index found that a typical family earning $114,289 paid $48,306 in taxes. According to director Jake Fuss, taxes remain the single largest household expense in Canada.
