Oral Rabies Vaccine Deployed by Air to Vaccinate Wildlife in Vermont

On May 5, 2025, the USDA and Vermont Health Dept. conducted a spring rabies vaccine bait drop to fight rising rabies cases in Caledonia, Chittenden, and Franklin counties. Since 2022, 95 rabid animals have been confirmed. Baits, safe for pets and people, are dropped by air or placed by hand and help vaccinate wildlife like raccoons and skunks. Residents are urged not to touch the baits. Vermont continues using ONRAB, an oral vaccine, to improve immunity in wildlife.
