Nearly half of Canadians say Ottawa must cut spending, new poll finds from taxpayer watchdog group.

A new Leger poll from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation shows 45% of Canadians want the federal government to cut spending, compared to 20% who want increases. Among decided voters, that number rises to 54%. CTF’s Franco Terrazzano says Canadians “know they pay too much tax because the government wastes too much money.” Despite promises of fiscal discipline, Ottawa plans to spend $488B this year—up 8.4% from last year. Critics urge PM Mark Carney to reverse course and stop the overspending.
