Lab-grown food is being promoted as a solution to issues like animal cruelty and greenhouse gas emissions linked to modern farming. These “cell-cultivated” products are made from real plant or animal cells. For meat, cells are taken from animal tissue and grown in a nutrient-rich solution. They’re placed in large bioreactors that boost growth. Over time, the cells develop into muscle, fat, and connective tissue—the key components of traditional meat—without the need to raise or slaughter animals.
