Some Alberta evacuees began returning home Tuesday, while others faced devastating news. Bigstone Cree Nation reported that 38 structures were destroyed, including the Bigstone Health Centre and Chipewyan Lake’s water treatment plant. Nine sheds were lost, and 10 buildings were partially damaged. “This means that the community of Chipewyan Lake has experienced a 49% structure loss,” said Chief Andy Alook.
