Gifford Fire destroys 72,000 acres as high wind warnings raise fears California blaze could grow

A fast-moving wildfire has scorched 72,000 acres in south-central California since the weekend, injuring three and threatening hundreds of structures with evacuations underway. Fueled by hot, dry weather and strong winds, the fire has spread through Los Padres National Forest in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties since Friday. As of Tuesday morning, it was only 3% contained, continuing to endanger the rural, agricultural area.
