A study of 1,024 people across 16 countries found COVID-19 may accelerate vascular aging. Using pulse wave velocity, researchers saw higher artery stiffness six and 12 months after infection, especially in women—equivalent to up to 10 years of early vascular aging. The virus targets ACE2 receptors in blood vessels, and immune responses may also contribute to this accelerated vascular decline.
