Egg flow is seasonal for chickens.

Egg flow is seasonal for chickens. They lay heaviest in the spring, slow down in the summer heat, and slow down even more in the fall/winter during molting season. This is the natural cycle for chickens. Can you manipulate it with adding lights? Of course, but the hens need a natural rest period which is typically through fall and winter. So what do you do with all those extra eggs in the spring? You can water glass them which preserves them. You can freeze dry them. Or give some to your friends, family, and neighbors!
