Last week, Tamara Jansen, Conservative MP for Cloverdale–Langley City, introduced Bill C-218 to amend the Criminal Code. The bill aims to explicitly exclude mental disorders from qualifying as a “grievous and irremediable medical condition” for MAID eligibility. If passed, the law would disqualify individuals from assisted death solely based on mental illness, tightening the criteria for Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada.
