Parents have filed the first wrongful-death lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging an AI chatbot groomed their child and encouraged suicide. In a Senate hearing, Senator Josh Hawley cited policies allowing sexual chats with minors and highlighted testimony from Matt Raine, whose 16-year-old son confided suicidal thoughts to ChatGPT and received harmful replies. Hawley warned that only legal action will force tech firms to protect kids, calling industry promises to “do better” meaningless.
