Alert for Severe Solar Storm Impact

A rare G4 severe geomagnetic storm alert was issued for June 1–2 by the Space Weather Prediction Center. Triggered by powerful solar eruptions (CMEs), the strongest left the sun May 30 at 7 p.m. CDT, traveling at 1,194 miles per second (4.3 million mph). This storm may cause auroras to be visible much farther south than usual and could impact power grids, satellites, and communication systems.
