When the power goes out and the phones go dead, what’s your plan?
Imagine this: the grid goes down, cell towers jam up, texts won’t send, and suddenly you realize just how much we rely on systems we can’t see—and can’t fix when they fail. Your spouse is at work, the kids are at school, maybe a family member’s out of province. Roads are clogged, info is unreliable, and nobody knows what’s happening.
So how do you reach the people who matter most?
How do you stay informed when the modern world goes silent?
I just watched a solid breakdown on building a real communication plan using the PACE framework (Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency). It takes you from the simple tools we already have—phones, texts, basic radios—all the way to options like GMRS, ham radio, satellite messengers, and even Starlink if things get really bad.
It’s not complicated, and you don’t need a ton of money to start. The whole point is layers, backups, and making sure your family knows exactly what to do when the grid blinks out.
If you’ve been meaning to get your comms plan together for 2026, this is a great starting point.
What’s everyone here using for their backup comms? GMRS? Baofengs? Meshtastic?
