Flour tortillas are one of the easiest and quickest breads you can make at home. No yeast, no special equipment, very little kneading, and just a short rest time. Once you try them fresh, itโs hard to go back to store-bought.
๐ง Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup warm water
3 tbsp oil or melted butter
๐ฅฃ Directions
1๏ธโฃ Mix the dry ingredients
In a bowl, combine the flour and salt.
2๏ธโฃ Add liquids
Pour in the warm water and oil (or melted butter). Mix until it forms a soft dough.
3๏ธโฃ Knead briefly
Knead for 2โ3 minutes until smooth. It doesnโt need much.
4๏ธโฃ Rest the dough
Cover and let it rest for about 10โ15 minutes. This makes rolling easier.
5๏ธโฃ Divide & roll
Cut into 8โ10 small balls. Roll each one thin on a lightly floured surface.
6๏ธโฃ Cook
Heat a dry pan over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla about 30โ60 seconds per side until lightly browned and puffed.
๐ Tips
๐ง Butter adds extra flavor, oil makes them softer
๐ฅ Hot pan = better bubbles and texture
๐ฅถ Store extras in the fridge or freeze for later
Fresh, cheap, and done in under 30 minutes โ a great basic skill to have.
